"Always keep the work/life balance in check." Shivani
Andrew Alexandrou has been a tiler for most of his life. He is the middle son of five brothers of a first generation Greek family. His father ran a fish shop in the 70s and most of his brothers have all run their own small businesses. He has now decided to open a fish and chip shop. He is being supported in getting his shop up and running by his younger brother, Nick, a former taxi driver, who used to work in their father's fish shop. However while Nick knows how to cook fish and chips, he has never opened his own business up from scratch as Andrew is doing. Andrew has invested over $200,000 in the business, loaned against his family home.
On top of the stress of trying to start up his own business, Andrew has recently separated from his wife of 23 years, soon after he committed to his lease. Andrew is also father to two children, Matthias John (13) and Victoria Faith (12), A committed Greek Orthodox, Andrew has strong family values and says his primary motivation for starting up the business is that he wants to buy his children a beach house with a pool as they are all keen swimmers. Andrew also hopes to have his children working in the shop with him soon, and eventually wants to pass the business over to them, as the previous generation of European migrants did with their family businesses
