Here's a young (presumably) Muslim guy on Britain's Got Talent with one of the most remarkable acts I've ever seen.
To say any more would be to spoil the surprise, so I'll just leave you to it. You simply have to check this out!
And just hope you get the cultural references.
Check out the semi-final performance.
UPDATE: I've managed to track down the performance from the Final. It's basically the same as the audition, but there's a lovely family twist at the end of this clip.
You can watch it here.

Plenty of Muslims have talent - original talent like Aamer Rahman and Mos Def to name but two. They don't need to imitate MJ, and I really did cringe when I saw the rappers at the end of your last show.
WA says: If you're calling this guy an MJ impersonator, then I'd say you're really missing the point of the act. It was the whole fusion concept that made it so original, which is why it went so close to winning.

AHA so he his muslim...who wudve thought, its not like his name is Sulaiman
WA says: Well, like I said in the blog entry above, I'm presuming he's a Muslim, largely because of his name. And his name is Sulaiman, it's just that they've transliterated it strangely - which is pretty common among Muslim migrants to English-speaking countries. He's not likely to be Sikh, or Hindu. Christian possibly, but it's only a slim possibility. The fact that he's British-Pakistani makes a Muslim background fairly unlikely. Obviously, though, I know nothing about his personal beliefs.

Haha, nice. I went to the show in Sydney! (Salam Cafe) Hi-bloody-larious (the atmosphere made it a more enjoyable experience) and I've just started reading your book, Waleed, 'People like us', you're a talented writer with a good message. Good luck with the more seasons to come, Insha'Allah!
WA says: Thanks Jay! Glad you enjoyed the night.

WA says: Apart fromt he vox-pop in our first episode at Rundle Mall we're not heading west this year. Maybe we could do something Adelaide way in later seasons.
