A Family Divided

Synopsis

Olivia Mensah-Kamara is larger than life, with a heart and wisdom to match. This mother of seven, a former broadcast journalist and political prisoner from Sierra Leone, emigrated to Tasmania three years ago after five years in a refugee camp in Ghana.

Olivia now battles with the daily challenges of bringing her children up in a new culture with different values. She struggles to juggle her desire for a substantial career with the immediate need to earn money in order to feed, clothe and house her family. What will it take for Olivia to feel settled?

When the opportunity arises for Olivia to send a container load of much-needed supplies to her old refugee camp in Ghana, she jumps at the opportunity. What ensues is an entertaining and excruciating campaign to raise money and donations to fill and ship the container to Africa, tackle the nightmarish bureaucracies in Ghana and deliver the container and its contents to the refugee camp.
