Bittersweet Freedom

Synopsis

Seventeen year-old Rashigh’s father was held in a detention centre in Australia for 6 years while Rashigh and his family waited in Iran. Recently reunited, they must together confront their past and find ways to harness their new freedom.

Using dramatic recreations of Rashigh’s memories alongside current-day footage, including a road trip back to the now closed Baxter Detention Centre, Bittersweet Freedom explores how Rashigh is determined to forge his own path in his adopted country and embrace his newfound freedom, despite the immense pressure he places on himself.
