Taste le Tour 2011

Synopsis

For the first time the popular French chef visits every one of the regions of this year's amazing race which begins in the Vendée region on the Atlantic coast and continues through the regions of Brittany, Normandy, the Loire Valley, Limousin, Auvergne, Albigeois, Toulousin, Pyréneens, Languedoc Roussillon, the north of Provence, the Alps, Piemont in Italy and the Dauphiné before finishing in Paris.

Gabriel is at ease in his native land, meeting talented artisans, like pâtissiers (pastry cooks), boulangers (bakers), fromagers (cheesemakers) and vignerons (winemakers), and with him we discover the outstanding quality of regional French food and visit some wonderful markets.

Gabriel, who trained in France forty years ago with some of the best French chefs, is in no doubt that France is the most exciting food country in the world. He takes us high in the mountains to taste Cantal cheese, which has been made in Auvergne for over a thousand years, and deep into the south-west country where he sips some very old Armagnac, a spirit that was first distilled from grapes 700 years ago.

Gabriel knows France intimately and has chosen some stunning locations, such as the Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley, the picturesque snowy peaks of the French Alps and the rugged coastline of Brittany. In each episode Gabriel or another French chef prepares a delicious regional dish.
