Overview
In 2009 Bob Dylan announced that 'I'm not a playwright. The people in my songs are all me'. Previously he had denied all personal content in his books. In his magisterial second volume of The Songs of Bob Dylan, Clinton Heylin reveals a portrait of the artist in many disguises.
Still on the Road begins in 1974 with 'Blood on the Tracks', the album filled with masterworks such as 'Tangled up in Blue' and 'Simple Twist of Fate' that heralded a watershed in Dylan's creative journey. It charts every song and what happened to Dylan in the following 34 years, up to 'Together Through Life' in 2009.
Clinton Heylin uncovers the story behind every song that Dylan wrote, where and when it was first recorded and what it has come to mean in the pantheon of popular music. Heylin is, in the words of the Irish Times, 'arguably the world's greatest rock biographer', and with the completion of this work confirms his place as Bob Dylan's preeminent chronicler.
