Overview
Raw and uncompromising this sexually-explicit drama about second-generation Turkish immigrants ("guest-workers" or gästarbeiter) in Germany, Head-On is an exploration of love and anguish in culturally-repressive worlds. It was one of the first films to tackle the problems facing Muslim immigrants in Europe.
Numbed by drugs, alcohol and a deep depression, Cahit drives his car into a wall. In the hospital he meets Sibel, a beautiful young Muslim girl who attempted suicide to escape from her conservative family.
Bound by their shared heritage and desperate to change their lives Cahit and Sibel devise a plan to live together in a marriage of convenience. Gradually they begin to fall in love, until an explosion of jealousy sends Cahit to jail and Sibel to Turkey – both vowing eternal fidelity.
