Overview

Crash 1
In the WRC you should expect the unexpected. When you or I drive a car, one for the worst thing that happens to us is to be involved in any type of crash. For a rally driver though crashing is almost as much part of the job as driving the perfect stage.

We speak to Mikko Hirvonen, Dani Sordo and their bosses to find out how they get behind the wheel and up to speed again.

Marcus and co-driver Timo Rautininen take us through some of their best.

Crash 2
Some drivers are unluckier than most, Fords Henning Solberg and Cato Menkerud know how to crash in style. Every picture tells a story – and somehow the cameras always seem to be in the right place at the right time

Crash 3
There are not many sports in the world, where fans literally play a part in the outcome of the event. In rallying though the spectators can make all the difference. With thousands lining the stages, sometimes they get an even closer view of these turbo charged machines than they expected. It’s quite often the number and strength of the fans who rescue a driver’s weekend. Some of the current WRC drivers tell us just how useful the fans can be.

Crashing has been an inevitability in rallying since the sport first began. We trawl the archives for some of the best old school crashes there are.
