Overview
First Australians chronicles the birth of contemporary Australia as never told before, from the perspective of its first people. First Australians explores what unfolds when the oldest living culture in the world is overrun by the world's greatest empire. Over seven documentaries, First Australians depicts the true stories of individuals - both black and white - caught in an epic drama of friendship, revenge, loss and victory in Australia's most transformative period of history.
We begin in 1788 in Sydney, with the friendship between an Englishmen (Governor Phillip) and a warrior (Bennelong) and end our tale in 1993 with Koiki Mabo's legal challenge to the foundation of Australia.
First Australians chronicles the collision of two worlds and the genesis of a new nation.

Hi Anita, the subtitled version is now available but the subtitles are only in English. If you wish to purchase this version please be specific with your order request as there are currently two versions on the market with the same barcode - one has English subtitles and one has none. Make sure to specify that you want the subtitled version.
Hi. I would like to purchase the DVD's for my parents in Switzerland. Same as Martin asked in July 09, I preferred a version with german subtitles. It's 8months on from then and I was wondering if the mentioned re-version is now available? Thanks for your feedback Cheers Anita
Hi Hilarie, First Australians is an All Regions DVD so it should play in the US. The DVD is in PAL format but the default format in the US is NTSC. You may need to check whether your DVD player is able to play PAL DVDs. Please visit our FAQ page for more information on PAL and NTSC DVD formats.
Saw a demo dvd and it looks great. I live in the US and have concerns about region compatibility. When I tried to view the demo on my dvd player it would not read because of region incompatibility, so I used my computer, When I tried to view the preview on the product website, I got a message saying "geoblocked." Who is protecting what here? Can Americans watch this or are we forbidden for some reason?
I agree, every Aussie should have this. Being an ex South African, where the rest of the planet condemed us for being racist and crap about appartheid. Well, Ill tell you this is far worse than appartheid!! At least we didnt hunt the black people like rabbits!!!
Hello Martin, There are currently no subtitles on this release due to original broadcast and DVD distribution timing.

A future re-version of the same barcode will include subtitles. The back of the box will indicate whether you are purchasing the subtitled version or not.
For my (college) students with an interest in Australia, and especially its indigenous population, I've always found it hard to point them to material which can satisfy their curiosity, but at the same time introduce them to the complexity of Australian history. FIRST AUSTRALIANS does all this -the only pity is that it comes without (English) subtitles, which would be a great help for foreign language students.
Every Australian should a copy of it!

what a must see production - we relocated here for work and want to learn all we can of the history and culture of australia. This film provided an eye-opening journey and perspective we had not yet realized in our first 18 months in country.
