Sex, politics and sexual politics in the Carribbean. Rival passions for a local Adonis lead three women from their tourist haven to the poverty-stricken reality of dictatorial Haiti. Read More
Overview
On the sun-drenched island of Haiti in the '70s, foreigners idle away their holidays in the palm-fringed paradise of the beach resorts. Brenda (Karen Young), Ellen (Charlotte Rampling) and Sue (Lousie Portal), three North American women, meet on the island looking for romance, relaxation and respite from their colorless jobs and marriages.
They find what they are looking for in Legba (Ménothy Cesar), an enigmatic local Adonis whose youth and beauty has them enthralled. Their shared passion for this young gigolo turns their camaraderie into rivalry, and leads them away from the gilded cage of tourism, opening their eyes to the poverty-stricken and dangerous reality of Haiti under dictator Baby Doc Duvalier.
