Overview

Food Safari is the ultimate journey into new culinary worlds on our doorstep.

Each episode explores a new cuisine with the help of professional chefs and homecooks who show us their tips and secrets, cheat's recipes and classic favourites. Presenter Maeve O'Meara takes us deep into our cities and suburbs to uncover the very best of ingredients.

Along the way, we meet people who really know their food and who make this series so real. Many of them are Maeve's old friends, and they happily share simple tips while preparing easy, mouth-watering dishes. It's a bit like getting a kiss on both cheeks as you pull up a chair to learn great new recipes from a food savvy friend.

Can I get a job with Maeve? I could think of nothing better than discussing and cooking food with people from all different nationalities - I'm open to try anything once. I love the way that the show uses real people who aren't afraid to show us how to without guarding their secrets. My only grizzle is that the show isn't on for long enough and some segments are a bit too brief.

'One of the most interesting food series of them all: exotic food cooked by exotic people made in indigenous land, Australia that is! This means we are always able to find every ingredient we need at the local grocery. It's really the best way to try that at home and find something different, and more exciting, of three vegies and meat or pizza take away. It gives us the fever of discovering and exploring the (sometime) unknown. The only slight let down the too many 'wow' and 'yum' by Maeve in every given episode: I would just edit some of them, just to be less cheesy. But she's nice.'

This series was an excellent introduction to the multicultural cuisines of modern Australia. Living in rural NSW I do not have access to restaurants featuring myriad different cuisines, so I value this series for the opportunities to cook these foods in my own home.

I love Food Safari because its about more than just the food. Maeve and her guests really hit the nail on the head with regard to what the staples and signatures of these cuisines say about the culture. And I always learn somthting - even in the episodes thst looked at my own cultural heritage! In the words of Maeve, "Mmmmmm...."
