Overview

“For too long now we have regarded the great toys as mere playthings. It’s time to use them to bring people together and achieve greatness. And I bet it’ll be a right laugh as well.” James May

James May is a man on a mission: he wants to get kids out of their bedrooms and away from their video games, he wants to drag parents off their backsides and get them all playing together again.

Using some of the world’s best loved toys, James May puts generations of families at the heart of some ludicrously ambitious adventures and extraordinary feats of engineering that fire the imagination and remind us of the joys of doing things together.

In 6 episodes, James’s adventure sees him, his team and the general public tackling some mindbogglingly spectacular challenges using:

  • Plasticine
  • Scalextric
  • Meccano
  • Airfix
  • Hornby
  • Lego

45+ years after making an Airfix Spitfire - I wnet to a model shop and bought a kit again. Yep - another Spit. All because of James MAy's show. Loved it.

Maybe it's because James and I are the same generation that I loved every moment of the series, but then so did my 17 y.o. daughter, who knew only of Plasticine and Lego out of the six. James' gentle and intelligent wit makes any of his projects well worth while: I thoroughly recommend his 20th Century as one to keep...

It was such a good series I have got the old Lego collection from my youth and given to my kids to play with, and lashed out and bought my first ever model train set. Definately a wonderful show, that is interesting and educational.

One of those rare programs shown on television that has the potential to re-invent humour, creativity and a love for life in human nature. I totally loved every minute of it, James May has a way of touching the heart and soul of humanity, definitely with his Platicine Garden. Cheers James.
