The 2010 FIFA World Cup was one of the most exciting tournaments ever. Played in South Africa, the question was asked, would any of the African nations make it in to
the final rounds? Africa celebrated when Ghana made it through to the quarter finals. Australia started badly but made amends with a sensational 2-1 win over Serbia. And New Zealand was everyone’s second favourite team when they almost made it through to round 16. Fans were shocked when two of the more fancied nations, Italy and France were knocked out in the early rounds, and England were beaten 4-1 by Germany in round 16.

In the Final itself, it took 90 minutes and extra time to separate the two teams, Netherlands and Spain. Spain, skilful and entertaining; the Netherlands, with a system
and discipline rarely seen before. Finally, Andres Iniesta of Spain put the ball in the back of the net and described the feeling as “priceless”.
