Overview

Throughout history European royal families have been known for their great wealth, often displayed in extravagant and beautiful jewellery. Today some of these monarchies no longer exist but their impressive jewellery lives on, still worn by the remaining royal families.

This two part documentary tells the fascinating story of these jewels and of the human destinies they entwine. The jewels have been stolen and resurrected as copies. They have been given as dowries and used as a cure for bad consciences in broken engagements. They have been hidden beneath women's skirts and smuggled out of chaotic countries. And some are still buried in the woods of Siberia.

These are stories of power, love, triumph, tragedy and honour.

Includes rare archival footage, and interviews with members of the Danish and Swedish Royal Families.

Unfortunately did not see program in SBS. Will they be repeating it? Miranda, Mary is now Crown Princess of Denmark, originally from Scotland. She is a Danish Princess, her family just happen to live in Tasmania. I will be buying the DVD because as a beautiful young intelligent woman she has shown she can be a princess of worth to the Danes.

This DVD was shown in 2 parts on SBS over the Christmas period so a lot of people would not have seen it. More's the pity as our Mary the Crown Princess of Denmark should have been promoted more. It was a fascinating glimpse into Euopean history with rare jewels being the main focus. highly recommended and should be repeated in peak viewing time.
