James May's Toy Stories Special: The Great Train Race
Having tasted defeat in the original series, James May makes a new attempt to run a Hornby model railway between two towns. Read More
Overview
Humble strips of metre long track for the Hornby model train, attempted to link two villages which had long since lost their railway. Unlike his four other challenges using old-fashioned toys, this quest failed - with James’s cherished childhood toy, the Flying Scotsman, failing to even make it out of the car park!
Now James and his team revisit the doomed challenge and make another attempt at building the longest ever model railway track-sixteen kilometres long.
This time the feat is bigger than ever before, as James challenges the two German proprietors of the world’s largest toy railway museum to a race along the track.
The locals of Barnstaple and Bideford are galvanised once again and James’s old friend and railway enthusiast Oz Clarke turns up to lend a hand. Will the people of Devon ensure that for the first time in a generation, a train - however small - makes the journey between the two towns?
