Overview

History sees the Vikings as a band of bloodthirsty pirates, raiding peaceful Christian monasteries… and it’s true. The Vikings took no prisoners, relished cruel retribution and prided themselves as fierce warriors. But their prowess in battle is only the start of the story. Going on the trail of the real Vikings this series reveals an extraordinary story of a people who, from the brink of destruction, built an empire reaching around a quarter of the globe.

Where did they come from? How did they really live? And what drove them to embark on such extraordinary voyages of discovery? Neil Oliver goes beyond their bloody reputation, from Iceland to Instanbul, to search for the truth about the Vikings.

My ancestors were Norman / name Burs... Traveled with William the conquerer in 1066 on his crusades through England and then Scotland / being given lands in Annandale Scotland.. There r books written by Mr Nigel Trantre factual historical fiction/ this series is the 1st I've seen that gives a fair look at a massive part of history relating to the Celtics and where they came from/ I am hope full somebody will fix the damage Mell Gibson did to this history continued in Scotland with his ridiculously altered HOLLYWOOD interpretation of the Bruce the liberator of Scotland and a Norman Celt.... Great work....
