The Blue Mountains Community Garden west of Sydney is more than just a thriving fruit and vegetable garden or even a place to bring your family for a nice day out. Walk into this unusual community sanctuary on any given day, and you could be confronted by a six-foot sword wielding Viking!
Operating for over 16 years the 2.5 hectare community gardens has been a key resource to the creative population in the mountains as well as offering an ample food supply for those that need it!
The William Street Playgroup in Sydney’s Northern beaches is a learning facility for 0 – 4 year olds that has been running successfully for many years. More recently, due to massive drainage issues at the centre, the program was going to have to close its doors. Last week, Costa came to the rescue of this needy community centre and weaved his water wizardry in an attempt to solve their issues and keep the doors open. Having hit quite a few snags along the way, this week Costa battles against the elements to get the job finished on time.
Mandala is a type of organic farming that utilizes a holistic system that makes the elements work together, to produce a synchronicity that makes the whole much greater than the sum of the parts.
Costa visits the Purple Pear organic farm in the NSW Hunter Valley, and explores this sustainable approach of growing seasonal produce with the assistance of international volunteers using permaculture and biodynamic principals.
