A message from Karla Grant - Executive Producer of the Deadlys broadcast and Presenter of Living Black
I can hardly believe that it’s Deadlys time once again! On Thursday 15th
October, the cream of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent will
walk the red carpet at the Sydney Opera House in a gala event to be
hosted by Deadly Award winner, Luke Carroll.
With the Deadlys
celebrating its 15th year, the night promises to be the biggest and
most memorable yet! This year pop superstar Jessica Mauboy is leading
an array of talented performers including Australian Idol winner Casey
Donovan, Newcastle rappers the Street Warriors and mesmerising song man
Djakapurra Munyarryun. They’ll be joined on stage by Indigenous
celebrities and high achievers who will be guest presenting at the
prestigious ceremony.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll bring you more
information about the event as well as inside information on the
performers, who will be attending and what people will be wearing!
Along with details about competitions! So stay tuned!
Stay deadly!

Since
1995, Vibe Australia has hosted The Deadly Awards - the National
Indigenous Music, Sport, Entertainment and Community Awards.
Affectionately
known as The Deadlys, the event is held annually in the Concert Hall of
the Sydney Opera House and broadcast to a national audience on SBS TV.
The
event has become one of the biggest celebrations on the Indigenous
calendar recognising and showcasing excellence by Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander people across music, sport, entertainment and community
achievements.
Deadly Award winners are chosen by public vote
with the community achievement awards, this year, being selected by the
newly formed Deadly Academy.
The Deadly Academy comprises
previous Deadly winners who will decide the community awards for
outstanding achievement in health, education, employment, community
broadcaster and young leader of the year. The Deadly Academy also has
the task of selecting the inductees into the Hall of Fame which
includes the Ella Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sport and the
Jimmy Little Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music.
This
year marks the 15th year of the Deadlys and it promises to be the
biggest and most memorable ever! It will be held on Thursday 15th
October 2009.
