Biography

SILVIO RIVIER graduated as an opera singer in 1980 from the NSW Conservatorium of Music, the same year SBS Television was launched. While working as a part-time opera subtitler at the network Silvio became ideologically hooked on the concept of multicultural television and put his singing on the back-burner after singing professionally for 7 years.

Silvio has been with SBS since day one and his contribution to the network has been truly diverse. From 1981 to 1986 he was SBS's chief station presenter, news reader and original anchor of, The Movie Show.

As an in-house producer/presenter, Silvio has also narrated countless documentaries and was the network's continuity announcer for a number of years. Silvio secured funding, initiated and was the associate producer of the documentary, When Friends Were Enemies, a finalist in the 1991 AFI Awards and New York Film and Television Festival.

After completing a post-graduate degree in Multicultural Journalism in 1998 Silvio left the viewer feedback program, HOTLINE to take on the role of presenter/narrator of THALASSA as well as series producer of, Global Village.
