The Revived Monastery

Amarbayasgalant is a splendid temple, nestled in the middle of the Mongolian steppe, in province of Selenge. It is Mongolia’s second largest monastery. At the end of the 19th century, 2,000 monks lived there until the Soviet occupation prohibited the practice of their religion for over 70 years!
Since 1991, Buddhism is rising from the ashes. Little by little, temples are reopening their doors.
Now, Amarbayasgalant counts about twenty monks. The average age is 15 years old, at most.
The head of the monastery himself, Lobsang Sumam, is only 27 years. In addition to teaching the precepts of Buddha, he is entrusted with the burden of providing for this community.
