Life on the Halligen Islands - Off the north-west coast of Germany, the Halligen Islands are wind-swept and sea-drenched. Despite the inhospitable environment, other than summer holidaymakers, the islands are inhabited year-round. There is even an annual festival, a giant bonfire in which a human effigy called Peter is put to the flames. With Silvio Rivier. The Last Orangutans of Sumatra - Englishman Ian Singleton and vet Yenny Saraswati are among the people involved in the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Project. They collect orangutans that have been captured and kept illegally as pets and teach them how to live in the jungle again. But the habitat of Sumatra’s orangutans is being rapidly depleted by deforestation and the planting of immense oil-palm plantations. It’s estimated that less than 6600 Sumatran orangutans remain in the wild. So it’s hard to find suitable places to release the orangutans Ian and his team have been caring for. With Silvio Rivier. Style Icon: The Panama Hat - The Panama hat is Ecuador's largest export. It takes three months just to create a single hat. The fabric, which comes from a certain species of palm tree, is braded so tightly it appears to be made out of linen. The "Rolls-Royce" of hats can cost up to thousands of dollars in the USA and Europe, and is nowadays also produced semi-industrially in the Andean city of Cuenca, where, now that the hat makers have organized their work optimally, they produce more than 500,000 hats a year. With Silvio Rivier. (Part 2 of 2) (From France, in Spanish) (Panamanian Culture) (Documentary) G CC
