Vince Colosimo

Vince Colosimo has played some unforgettable roles. Born and bred in Melbourne, Vince's parents are both from Calabria in the south of Italy. Vince knows little about his forebears’ lives before they came to Australia.

In this program, Vince discovers the truth about his grandfather’s war experience, which has remarkable twists and turns. He uncovers a horrendous and tragic episode of World War II, and a truly extraordinary story of survival that will forever change his view of his grandfather.

On his father’s side there’s always been a mystery about his grandmother, as she died young, and little is known about her life or family. On his quest to find out who she was, Vince uncovers the story of her father, and finds out their lives in rural Calabria were touched by both joy and tragedy. Vince’s re-connection to his ancestral mother country is profound and his observations are steeped in humour, candour, and occasional coarse language.
