From World Cup and Champions League Football, World Championship Athletics, and the Tour de France, David Basheer has been at the microphone on SBS for many key sporting events.

David first commentated on football with SBS during the 1996 Olympic qualification tournament, he was part of SBS’ on air team at the World Cup in France 98. 4 year’s later for the World Cup of 2002 he hosted the World Cup Today show on ESPN Star Sports across Asia.

It was during this three-year stint with Asia’s biggest sports network he was as a senior Presenter and Commentator, fronting the network’s UEFA Champions League and Spain’s Primera coverage and Formula One motor racing.

A career traversing the globe has also taken David to four World Athletics Championships with SBS in Osaka, Paris, Helsinki and Edmonton.

In Cycling he has broadcast at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, 2004 Athens Olympics and Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002. In 2006 he worked with Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen on the SBS Tour de France coverage. On top this there has been numerous Grand Slam tennis events with International Broadcasters including the last 3 French Open titles.

One of David’s career highlights was commentating on last season UEFA Champions League final between AC Milan and Liverpool at the Olympic stadium in Athens, the same venue he called the 2004 Olympic football final.

David can be seen each Sunday on SBS hosting the network’s flagship football program The World Game.
