Ethiopia is defending its recent decision to send troops into neighbouring Somalia, to help fight the militant Islamist group, al-Shabab.
Ethiopia's newly-appointed ambassador to Australia, Markos Tekle, says the Ethiopians have joined troops from Kenya in trying to support Somalia's fragile transitional government.
He says other countries - including Australia - should be backing such efforts to help the Somali government.
The Ambassador made the remarks in an interview with Kassahun Seboqa, of SBS Radio's Amharic program, in which he also thanked Australia for its recent pledge of $43-million in aid for health programs in Ethiopia.
He began by explaining why Ethiopia considered it necessary to send troops into Somalia.
