5000 Besucher beim Schweizer Festival in Melbourne Jedes Jahr ist das Swiss Festival in Victoria ein absolutes Highlight in der Schweizer Gemeinde Australiens. In diesem Jahr wagten die Veranstalter den Schritt in die Innenstadt.Trotz knapp 40 Grad im Schatten wurden gesungen, getanzt, gelacht und natürlich viel gegessen. SBS war mit einem Stand und einem Mikro vor Ort.

Australien und Deutschland unterzeichnen Vertrag für eine strategische Partnerschaft Deutschland und Australien wollen künftig enger zusammenarbeiten. Dazu unterzeichneten Bundesaußenminister Guido Westerwelle und sein australischer Amtskollege Bob Carr die sogenannte "Berlin-Canberra-Absichtserklärung über eine strategische Partnerschaft". Die Erklärung sieht eine engere Kooperation in der Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik, in Wirtschaft und Handel, bei Energie und Ressourcen, bei der Bekämpfung des Klimawandels, in der Entwicklungshilfe sowie in Wissenschaft, Bildung und Kultur vor. Australia and Germany sign a treaty for strategic partnership Germany and Australia have signed a bilateral strategic partnership to institutionalise regular high-level policy dialogues between the two countries. Foreign Minister Bob Carr and Germany's Minister for Foreign Affairs Guido Westerwelle see their nations as active regional leaders whose common interests would be advanced through regular policy discussion. The Berlin-Canberra Declaration also contains plans to cooperate in fields such as foreign,- and security policy, economy, trade, energy and resource management as well as education, culture and science projects.

Tasmania is well known for the natural beauty, delicious wines and more recently, even for modern art. The Museum of Old and New Art – MONA- made headlines in the art world, when art collector David Welsh started presenting controversial art in his self-made museum. Part of the current exhibition `Wim Delvoy` is a living artwork – the tattooed Swiss Tim Steiner. His colourful back will be on display, even after his death.
CeBIT 2011

For three days, CeBIT is open to everyone involved in the I.T. industry. The Australian branch of the German-based exhibition has become one of the largest in the Asia-Pacific region. The event was officially opened by Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd and his German counterpart, Guido Westerwelle. Among the invited guests was SBS Radio correspondent Wolfgang Müller, who covered the event fort he German program.

Victoria's Austrian community might be small, but as it proves once a year, it is all the more passionate about its culture. At the Austrian Club in Melbourne, hundreds of people gathered to celebrate anything Austrian. SBS Radio was there to cover the event and to join in the festivities.
