इस वर्ष फिल्मी दुनिया के जानेमाने कलाकार जैफरी रश को आस्ट्रेलियन ऑफ़ द यीर सम्मान दिया गया। ऑस्कर सम्मान से सम्मानित जैफरी रश आस्ट्रेलिया के स्थानीय कला क्षेत्र से भी सक्रिय रूप से जुड़े हुये हैं । युवा आस्ट्रेलियन ऑफ़ द यीर बनी मरीता चैंग। मरीता ने रोबोहगाल नामक प्रोग्राम बनाया जिससे लड़कियों में इन्जीनियरिंग के लिये शौक जागे और मूल समुदाय की लीडर सुश्री लॉरी बेमारवांगा को सीनियर आस्ट्रेलियन ऑफ़ द यीर सम्मान से सम्मानित किया गया । उन्होंने अपनी भाषा को संजो कर रखने के लिये एक शब्दकोश बनाने की योजना की शुरूवात की और वह सांस्कृतिक धरोहर को संजोने सम्बन्धित योजनाओं को सक्रिय रूप से अपना समर्थन देती हैं ।
