“Seollal” known as Lunar New Year in Australia is one the most celebrated national holidays in Korean along with Full Moon Day. In this sense, Korean community people think their tradition has been seemingly subbed by the dominance of Chinese New Year Celebration. However, Korean community in Sydney has made the most of their unique cultural tradition and overwhelming K-Pop sensation for this year’s Lunar New Year celebrations.. Their own festivals took place in both Sydney City and an inner west suburb Strathfield respectively on 16th, 17th and 20th of February in support of each Council.

The heart of Sydney CBD, Martin Place has caught the K-Pop frenzy syndrome. A big group of Australian youth and faithful audience of SBS Pop Asia flocked to the City on 23 July in spite of the rain, so as to perform a K-Pop Flash Mob and call for a K-Pop concert to be held in Sydney as early as possible. K-Pop is currently an ongoing global phenomenon and the major theme of SBS Pop Asia.

SBS Korean Program's held an outside broadcast in Strathfield, NSW, on a rainy 6th of February, 2010 with Hoju Tongsamo (Guitar Lovers Group in Australia). They delighted the large crowd who converged to relive their homeland memories of the 1970s and 1980s. SBS Korean Program also took part in the Korean Karaoke Competition, as part of the Lunar New Year Celebration.
