On Sunday, 19th March, 2017, excellent students in Ukrainian Studies receive prizes in recognition of their achievements he recipients of the 2016 Monash Rudewych Year 12 Ukrainian Language Scholarships and Encouragement Awards were announced in March, and prize certificates were presented to recipients in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide at Ukrainian community celebrations of Shevchenko DayThe Scholarships were established with funds generously donated by Mr Victor Rudewych and Ms Maria Rudewych. The Scholarships aim to encourage students in Australia to study the Ukrainian language and culture at school and to progress to higher levels of tuition from year to year. In December 2014 the first of the Monash Rudewych Years 7-11 Ukrainian Language Scholarships were awarded to students in Melbourne and Sydney.In June 2014, Victor and Maria Rudewych donated $1.52 million to support university research and teaching in Ukrainian Studies, as well as Ukrainian language and culture education in Ukrainian after-hours schools in Australia. In fulfilment of one of the wishes of the donors, the long-established Monash Rudewych Year 12 Ukrainian Language Scholarship scheme was extended, adding a new scholarship scheme that rewards up to eight students at every year level from Year 7 onward.
