SBS Codes of Practice 2014 (as at 30 March 2018)

SBS is an independent national media organisation operating under the Special Broadcasting Service Act 1991 (Cth) (SBS Act). SBS is required to develop codes of practice relating to programming matters and to notify those codes with the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

The SBS Codes of Practice set out the principles and policies SBS uses to guide its programming. They embrace the principal Charter function of SBS: '...to provide multilingual and multicultural radio, television and digital media services that inform, educate and entertain all Australians, and, in doing so, reflect Australia's multicultural society'.

Gambling advertising restrictions
New rules applying further restrictions to the placement of gambling and betting advertising during live sporting events between the hours of 5.00am and 8.30pm are effective from 30 March 2018. The new rules are set out in Codes 5.1 and 5.2 of the SBS Codes of Practice, and apply across SBS's television, radio and online platforms.
