SBS is subject to the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) under which every person has a right to obtain access to documents held by SBS other than exempt documents (and subject to certain other exceptions). SBS is exempt from the operation of the FOI Act in relation to its program material and datacasting content (section 7(2)). This page sets out how you can make an FOI access request to SBS.
Requests for access to documents under the FOI Act should be made in writing to SBS. Requests should be sent to:
Post: SBS, Locked Bag 028, Crows Nest NSW 1585
Web form: Please fill in FOI Access Request web form at the SBS Help Centre (https://help.sbs.com.au).
The FOI Act also requires SBS to publish a range of information under the Information Publication Scheme (IPS). SBS's IPS entry can be accessed here.
SBS is also required by the FOI Act to publish on its website a disclosure log listing information which has been released in response to a request for access to an SBS document under the FOI Act. This requirement has applied since 1 May 2011. The SBS disclosure log can be accessed here.
Further information on the operation of the FOI Act is available on the website of the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
