SBS Apppoints Peter Khalil to the position of Director, Strategy & Communications

SBS has appointed Peter Khalil to the position of Director, Strategy & Communications, effective 21 May, 2012.

Mr Khalil brings to the position robust experience across the corporate and public sectors in strategic planning, public policy, government relations and media/communications. Most recently he was an associate at government relations and public affairs company Hawker Britton.

Mr Khalil will replace Bruce Meagher who will depart SBS in May.

“I thank Bruce for his service to SBS over the past six years. His work in helping shape the direction of SBS as it delivers on its Charter has been second to none. I have enjoyed working with Bruce and thank him for his support over the last nine months since I joined SBS.”

On his appointment, Mr Khalil said: “I’m very excited to be joining SBS, an organisation that has been an integral part of Australian cultural life for decades. I grew up with SBS TV and Radio and look forward to contributing to its growth into the future.”

Prior to joining Hawker Britton, Mr Khalil worked for former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as his foreign policy/national security adviser and as senior international adviser to the Minister for Defence. He has also worked in the United States, providing advice to government, multinational corporations and Wall Street financial institutions.

Mr Khalil will be responsible for overseeing the broadcaster’s strategy and communications to media, government and the broader community.
