Matthews publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with his worlds road silver against Peter Sagan, stating Australia should not have had two leaders - he and Gerrans (who finished sixth). The pair said they resolved the issue immediately at a post-race briefing.

Still on a high after Mathew Hayman's win at Paris-Roubaix, team director Matt White said the two will work together well and he doesn't mind who wins.

"I don't care who wins on the weekend, so long as we do," White said.

"I'm super-excited - not too many teams, if any, have the capabilities of having two options so deep in the (race), it doesn't get any better.

"We have a plan - it's a long and it's a pretty sketchy day. A lot of crashes and position is quite crucial, so we'll split them up during the day. I will talk to them in person on the weekend about what we want them to do in the last couple of kilometres," he said.

"(A win) would be massive regardless, but especially coming off Paris-Roubaix," White added.

This will be the only race where Matthews and Gerrans will line-up together other than the Tour de France.

Matthews and Gerrans have both podiumed at the Amstel Gold Race which kicks off Ardennes week.

Orica GreenEdge and the remainder of Ardennes week:

  • Fleche Wallone, April 20: Michael Albasini to lead, Matthews will also race.
  • Liege-Bastogne-Liege (monument) April 24: 2014 winner, Gerrans to lead

The Amstel Gold Race will be live streamed Sunday 17 April here on Cycling Central from 10:30pm AEST and broadcast on SBS.
