Stage 3 saw a number of early attacks snuffed out before a break could get away, and when it did Wiggle High5’s Mara Abbott and Boels-Dolmans Evelyn Stevens were the two ride clear of the peloton.

Pressure from Abbott gave her the solo lead after Stevens fell back into a chase group of seven that also included her teammate and race leader Megan Guarnier.

Kristin Armstrong of TWENTY16-Ridebiker, Katie Hall (UnitedHealthcare), Emma Johansson (Wiggle High5), Alena Amialiusik (Canyon/SRAM) and Eri Yonamine (Hagens Berman-Supermint) were also in the group and they combined to catch Abbott with about 30km left to ride.

The rest of the chase group soon was reabsorbed into the peloton, with a main group of 25 travelling together toward the downtown circuits for the finish.

Coming into the final turn, TWENTY16-Ridebiker and UnitedHealthcare took over at the front to lead out their sprinters, but Rabo-Liv’s Vos accelerated out from the bunch to take the win with Rivera and Johansson in tow.

Race leader Guarnier increased her overall lead with bonus points earned at the single intermediate sprint of the day, ahead of Armstrong and Stevens. Vos moved up from seventh to fourth after the stage victory.
