Race vision showed stage winner Romain Bardet, who is third overall, grab a bottle from a spectator 6.4km from the finish but without a later penalty.

"The UCI has reversed its decision. No penalty for Rigo," Cannondale-Drapac team manager Jonathan Vaughters said on Twitter.

He also said and that the decision also applied to the other riders affected.

Uran, George Bennett (LottoNL-Jumbo) and Serge Pauwels (Dimension Data) had been sanctioned for taking a bottle from a Cannondale staffer inside the last 10km of Thursday's stage.

#Watergate: should Bardet also be fined?
The general classification would look slightly different after stage 12 if Romain Bardet (AG2R) received the same sanction as Rigoberto Uran (Cannondale-Drapac) and George Bennett (LottoNL-Jumbo) for taking on refreshments in the final 10 kilometres.

There were fined 200CHF (Swiss Francs) and docked 20 seconds on the overall classification.

Uran remains fourth in the overall standings, 35 seconds behind race leader Fabio Aru and not 55 seconds off the pace before the reversal of the decision.

Vaughters told Reuters the UCI did not explain to him the reason for overturning the decision.
