The BORA-hansgrohe rider took a different path to victory on the 183.3km stage from Tekirdag to Eceabat which ended with a punchy finish not usually suited to sprinters.

Bennett won in a uphill sprint after the remnants of a shattered peloton caught his BORA-hansgrohe team-mate Lukas Postlberger who had two kilometres earlier soloed to a small gap.

"I am delighted to take yet another stage win here, my ninth now, Bennett said. "Big thanks to the BORA-hansgrohe crew for all their efforts, yesterday and today.

"I said to my guys, that they should go and I will tell them on the climb if I feel strong enough or not cause the stage wasn’t so easy with the finale.

"Well, I pushed hard and with Felix finishing in second place I think we showed another amazing team effort.”

Felix Grobschartner, another Bora-Hansgrohe rider, took second and Manzana Postobon rider Jhonatan Restrepo Valencia finished third.
