Australia's Richie Porte may have made his future employer very happy overnight, whomever that may be, after putting in a sterling performance in service of current Team Sky team-mate and maillot jaune Chris Froome. Porte not only provided a launchpad for Froome's blistering attack at 6km to go, but also reeled in Nairo Quintana (Movistar) in the last couple of kilometres to snatch second on the stage.
"I sort of felt a little bit bad picking [Quintana’s] pocket but it’s a race," he said,
Porte warned that Team Sky will need to be on their guard after this effort, though.
"It’s one day in the Tour. We can’t get too carried away. We’ve seen in 2013 the first and second on the stage and then the disaster there. So we’re not getting too far in front of ourselves, but it’s still a fantastic feeling."
Porte will start in the polka dot jersey tomorrow, wearing it on behalf of Chris Froome. More from Porte below.
