Meera Freeman is one of Australia’s top cooking teachers and food authors, who says her lifelong devotion to good food comes from her Jewish upbringing. She is the owner-operator of the Meera Freeman Cooking School and gives regular courses in North African, Italian, Thai and Vietnamese cuisines. Meera also takes gastronomic tours to Morocco and closer to home; the Vietnamese precinct in Melbourne. She has written three cookbooks; A Season in Morocco, The Flavours of Vietnam and Cooking Class.

Along with her father and brother, Nikki Laski runs Monarch Cakes. This "institution" on Melbourne’s famous cake strip in Acland Street, St Kilda, has been baking from the same recipes for over 75 years. Many of the recipes originated from the shop in Poland and were brought by the family to Australia.
