Instantly recognisable with his warm smile and topknot, Destination Flavour host and former MasterChef winner Adam Liaw has carved out a niche for himself as one of Australia’s favourite new cooks and commentators. Born in Malaysia to an English-Singaporean mother and Hainanese Chinese father, Adam’s family lived in several countries through his youth. His culinary influences stretch from Malaysia and Japan to China, Indonesia, Australia and England. Although Adam was encouraged to cook from a young age, it wasn’t until he moved in with his Chinese grandmother in his early teens that his real passion for cooking was ignited. Between his TV commitments and writing his cookbooks, recipes and columns, he makes regular appearances at events and food festivals, and he usually has time to send a tweet or two.
