After a long break, Les Revenants (we’re not trying to be fancy - that’s what they call the show in France) is coming back to answer questions posed by the finale of season 1.

When we last left the undead, they were disappearing into the mountains with Simon, Camille, Claire, Julie and little Victor. The second series picks up six months later, as Adele prepares to give birth to Simon’s child, the dam remains under surveillance and Lena and Jerome still hope to find Claire and Camille.

An outstanding exercise in tension and suspense, The Returned grows on you and before you know it, you’re consumed – and series two promises more of the same. You don’t have to take our word for it. The Hollywood Reporter called series 2 “hypnotic and otherworldly” and Variety called it “romantic, foreboding and creepy all at once”.

Granted, it’s been a while since series one, so if you need to get a reminder of what happened, watch this recap:

The Returned series 2 premieres Monday 4 January at 8:30pm (AEDT) on SBS 2.
