Caitlyn Jenner will make her dramatic acting debut in season three of the award-winning drama Transparent.
The show’s creator, Jill Solloway, announced at the GLAAD Media Awards that the I Am Cait star will be joining the cast for season three in a yet-to-be-named role.
Speaking to AP, Solloway said the casting was "a dream come true”. She went on to explain, “We are all part of the same community. A lot of the transwomen who work on our show are also in her show, I Am Cait. Lots of crossover. Lots of friends."
Prior to her transition, Jenner appeared in CHiPs, The Love Boat and Murder, She Wrote as well as the reality TV juggernaut, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
As a self-proclaimed Republican and one time Ted Cruz supporter, her appearance on a liberally progressive show appears to contradict the Republican Party’s poor record on LGBT and women’s issues and specifically their dismissal of the transgender community.
With I Am Cait suffering from cancellation rumours and struggling in the ratings, an appearance on the critically acclaimed Transparent could be just what she needs.
But not everyone is pleased with the news.
With some pointing out more appropriate casting alternatives.
Only time will tell if Jenner's addition to the show will have a negative impact.
The new season of Transparent is back later this year.
