A year ago, it seemed like an impossibility. An insane proposition. We all made jokes and had a nice laugh.

But now, as Morrissey once said, that joke isn’t funny anymore.

Hillary Clinton will face off against… (struggling to actually type the words) Donald Trump in the first of three US presidential debates, which are sure to be comprised of a vigorous exchange of practical, helpful ideas at a high level of discourse.

Haha just kidding. They’re going to be about non-scandal email scandals and building a wall to keep Mexicans out.

Should be very interesting / terrifying to watch a country brought to its knees by this satirical farce turned waking nightmare of a presidential campaign.

And you can watch it all happen live on SBS, which is airing the debate at 11am (AEST).

For post-debate coverage, make sure you watch Full Frontal with Samantha Bee on SBS 2 on Thursday, 29 September at 8pm and on SBS On Demand.

We are now through the looking glass, everyone.
