Shameless self-promotion? You betcha. But with scripted programs like Safe Harbour, Sunshine and The Family Law this past year on SBS and NITV, we’re proud of the homegrown series we’ve aired and don’t care who knows it.

If you need no further convincing, head here to cast your vote – preferably for us! Otherwise, here’s a guide to the SBS and NITV shows and talent in the running for nomination at this year’s TV WEEK Logie Awards.

Most Popular Drama Program

Safe Harbour

Currently intriguing Australia with its “who cut the rope” mystery, this beautifully shot drama flits between events that occurred when a group of friends out sailing came across a stranded boat packed with refugees and five years afterwards. What exactly happened after the passengers voted to toe the asylum seekers to safety? As well as its thrilling premise, Safe Harbour features an accomplished cast whose performances maintain the tension until the very end.

Incredibly timely, this crime drama set in the western Melbourne suburb of Sunshine follows a group of teenage basketball players, many of them immigrants from South Sudan. One of the team, Jacob (Wally Elnour) is talented enough to attract the attention of American college scouts, but his involvement in a joyride in a stolen Porsche might derail his chances. Acting newcomers like Elnour give Sunshine a refreshing edge that make it one of the year’s most exciting dramas.

Most Popular Comedy Program

The Family Law

SBS only has one series eligible for this category – but what a show it is! Based on the experiences of writer Benjamin Law, The Family Law has for two seasons charmed viewers with its unique take on growing up in Australia. In its upcoming third and final season, the laugh-out-loud comedy will prove again why it’s one of Australian TV’s most refreshing series.

Also from The Family Law, there’s Anthony Brandon Wong, who plays patriarch Danny Law, while from Safe Harbour, Hazem Shammas (Ismail Al-Bayati), Ewen Leslie (Ryan Gallagher), Robert Rabiah (Bilal Al-Bayati) and Joel Jackson (Damien Pascoe) all deliver captivating performances.

TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Most Popular Actress

Safe Harbour’s Jacqueline McKenzie (Helen Korczak), Leeanna Walsman (Bree Gallagher) and Phoebe Tonkin (Olivia Gallagher) have all worked extensively in Australia and the US, and bring that depth of experience to their roles, while co-star Nicole Chamoun is compelling as grieving mother Zahra Al-Bayati. Similarly, Kiwi actress Melanie Lynskey (Zara Skelton) and local upcoming star Tiarne Coupland (Elly Messina) both gave standout performances in Sunshine. Speaking of standouts, scene stealer Fiona Choi is one of the highlights of The Family Law.

Most Popular New Talent

Awarded for actors making their first major appearance on TV, this Logie could end up going home with Kyliric Masella, who plays lead character Fuzzy Mac in NITV kids’ fantasy series Grace Beside Me. Or Wally Elnour (Jacob Garang) or Autiak Aweteek (Santino) could be in the running for their breakthrough roles in Sunshine.

But only if you vote!
