The Up series
This fascinating series of documentary films from director Michael Apted (Gorky Park, Gorillas in the Mist) has followed a group of British children since 1964, when they were seven years old. Through 7 Up, 14 Up, 21 Up, 28 Up, 35 Up, 42 Up, 49 Up, 56 Up and 63 Up, the documentary series is a fascinating look at not only how their lives have changed, but the world around them, too. The range of emotions, experiences and life changes makes these films unlike any other project, and like all that have gone before 63 Up has so much so share. “What comes out really clearly for me in 63 Up is the fact that there is so much reflection and so much equality, and also the longevity of the relationship between Michael and all the contributors really comes out. There’s a completely different tone to this one and that’s really interesting,” says producer Claire Lewis.
