If you’re a Vikings or Rome fan, then you can’t miss this Italian series. Spoken completely in ancient Latin, it is a dramatic and gritty retelling of the ancient myth about the founding of Rome. But this is not the story you’ve heard before about two brothers, Romulus and Remus and the she-wolf who saves them.

“This is a story about tribes,” explains executive producer Marco Chimenz, co-CEO of producer Cattleya (Gomorrah). “What we see are these almost primitive men and women, terrorised by nature and gods. We follow the stories of three or four characters, all outcasts for one reason or another, and how they survive and take their destinies into their own hands.

“This is done with a realistic ambition to do something that is powerful narratively but has a very realistic approach to the storytelling.”

'Romulus' gives Roman mythology the 'Vikings' treatment
Spoken entirely in archaic Latin, this new historical epic tells the origin of Rome, beyond the legend you know. Coming to SBS and SBS On Demand 24 February.

Romulus is now streaming at SBS On Demand.

Atlantic Crossing

Starring SBS On Demand favourite Sofia Helin (Saga Noren from The Bridge) and Kyle MacLachlan, this period drama takes us to Washington, D.C. in 1940 where Crown Princess Märtha and her children are living at the White House as political refugees from Nazi-occupied Norway. Her presence there influences how President Roosevelt views the unfolding tragedy in Europe. What begins as a friendship turns into affection and turmoil when Märtha courageously speaks out against the Nazis, eventually changing the course of the war. This compelling series features both Norwegian and English languages.

A hidden corner of World War II comes to the surface in ‘Atlantic Crossing’
‘Atlantic Crossing’ lifts the lid on the wartime relationship between FDR and the Crown Princess of Norway – and has stirred up controversy in the process.

Atlantic Crossing is now streaming at SBS On Demand.

If it’s another historical action epic you’re after, look no further. This UK series is an epic reimagining of one of literature’s greatest and most enduring heroes, Beowulf. But with a political conspiracy afoot, Beowulf’s homecoming does not go as planned. Essentially a Western set in Britain’s mythic past, the story unfolds on a huge canvas, filmed among the breathtaking beauty of England’s north east. Get ready for epic fights, thrilling chases, raids, celebrations and battles.
