News bulletin in Arabic for the day
The head of Australia's foreign intelligence agency says Australian cyber spies have played a critical role in defeating I-S terrorists in a major battle in the Middle East.
The revelation comes as the agency responsible, the Australian Signals Directorate, launches a major recruitment drive, and the department's director-general, Mike Burgess, gives a major speech in Sydney today.
He'll detail how, as Australian forces were about to attack I-S militants in the Middle East, spies sitting at computers back in Australia disabled the control and command networks of I-S.
He'll also reveal how a young woman working for the directorate posed as a terrorist commander online, and a convinced a man to abandon his plans for jihad.
The agency is trying to shake the perception it is only looking for men who are interested in computers to work for it.
