COVID-19 update: In NSW ‘life will look better’ once 80 per cent vaccination reached, Victoria extends support package

  • NSW reaches 40 per cent double-dose vaccination
  • Victoria announces support for vulnerable communities

New South Wales 

NSW has recorded 1485 new locally acquired cases, and three deaths. There are over a thousand people in hospital, 175 people in intensive care, and 72 of those require ventilation.

NSW has now hit 40 per cent double-dose vaccination and 73 per cent first-dose. Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the state will “certainly not have a statewide lockdown ever again” when 80 per cent vaccination is achieved, but she warns the number of cases will peak in the next fortnight.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 183 new locally acquired cases, with 101 linked to known outbreaks.

Minister Luke Donnellan announced a $27 million extension of a support package for vulnerable communities.

Last 24 hours around Australia
  • ACT 15 new cases, of those 13 are linked to known clusters. Six were in quarantine for their entire infectious period.
  • One new locally acquired case in Queensland is the mother of a child who tested positive yesterday.
  • WA wants at least 80 per cent of eligible West Australians vaccinated before he will set a date for bringing down the hard border.
