This is your update on the Coronavirus in Australia for 21 September 2021.

  • Byron, Kempsey and Tweed in NSW to re-enter lockdown
  • Victoria now has 6,000 active COVID-19 cases
  • ACT announces additional funding for mental health services

New South Wales

NSW has recorded 1,022 new locally acquired cases and 10 deaths. Currently, 53 per cent of eligible residents are fully vaccinated.

Byron Shire, Kempsey and Tweed's local government areas will go into a seven-day lockdown from 5pm today after a positive COVID case from Sydney visited several communities on the NSW north coast.

From today, a group of three friends under the age of 18 can visit each other at home as long as they live within 5 kilometres and in the same local area. The "friends bubble" is only permitted in households where all adults are fully vaccinated.

Australian Red Cross delivers one-off financial assistance for people on temporary visas or without visas affected by NSW lockdowns.

There are currently 403 positive cases linked in the industry, related in turn to 186 construction sites.

Victoria set to receive more than 300,000 Moderna vaccines across the state.
