Nearly every Australian state and territory faced extreme fire danger on Thursday, as hot and windy conditions scorched the country.

Emergency warnings in both Victoria and New South Wales have been issued for bushfires burning out of control.

While in South Australia, conditions eased after a demanding 24 hours in the town of Yorketown, where 11 properties have been damaged or destroyed.
