New cultural centre for African arts opens in Melbourne

A new joint for Victorias African community has opened in Melbourne. Afro Hub in the Melbourne suburb of Carlton North is owned and operated by entrepreneur Saba Alemayo, who was born in Somalia to Ethiopian parents.Sabas dream is to cement Afro Hub as a cultural centre for creative African Australians to showcase their talents. The centre will be hosting monthly performance and spoken word events. Martin Kwakwa spoke with her, asking Saba first about Afro Hub.

Afro Hub is an incubator of African Australian talent, showcasing live music, artwork, food, fashion, design, photography and film created by Melbourne-based artists hailing from various countries on the African continent.

 

 

 

Located on Nicholson Street in Carlton North, the multi-purpose venue is a combination of a café, bar, retail space and gallery with an evolving theme.
