North Korea uses reality TV to mount a charm offensive

ABC News reports that it is the first time North Korea has permitted a reality TV show to be filmed in the country.

Chairman Kim Jong-un has further formalised his position as head of state while also promoting the tourism industry.

According to ABC News, Vietnam Television (VTV) broadcast one leg of the long-running and enduringly popular television franchise The Amazing Race Vietnam filmed in Pyongyang last month.

According to Vietnamese media, this is the first time North Korea has permitted a reality TV show to be filmed in the country.
